When people shop for a condominium, they usually compare three things: the purchase price, the monthly HOA fee, and the amenities. If one community has a higher monthly fee than another, it's easy to assume it simply costs more to live there. Sometimes that's true. But sometimes there is much more to the story.
One of the things I enjoy most about real estate is asking questions. If something doesn't seem to make sense, I start digging. Recently, while researching a condominium community for one of my listings, I noticed the HOA dues had increased substantially over a relatively short period of time.
